Profile
Dr Chong obtained her PhD (2004) and MA degree (2000) in Psycholinguistics and Teaching German as a Foreign Language at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in Germany. Besides her solid experience in teaching at HKU over 18 years since 2003, she was awarded the 2015 Arts Faculty Teaching Excellence Award and the 2018 Arts Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award.
In 2023, she was awarded the Fellowship of HKU Advance HE Fellowship Scheme (FHEA) in recognition of attainment against the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education.
Since joining HKU, Dr Chong has taken a leadership role in curriculum development of German Programme by teaching the core language courses at all levels as well as designing and coordinating a number of new content-based courses in her research fields.
Dr Chong pioneered and managed Knowledge Exchange projects to outreach local secondary schools and attract potential entrants to the SMLC German Programme. She has partnered with 28 local and international secondary-level schools and German cultural institutions to bring the study of German and the appreciation of German culture to local community. Her KE impact projects also enable German Programme students to participate as language and cultural ambassadors and gain excellent experiential learning and teaching experience. Dr Chong has also led the Knowledge Exchange & Outreach Subcommittee of the Committee on Gender Equality and Diversity at HKU.
As one of Hong Kong's foremost Chinese-German-English academics, Dr Chong has published research on German language education, multilingual language acquisition and intercultural studies. These include academic articles and book chapters published by leading international and peer-reviewed journals and reputable publishers.
Professional Societies
Dr Chong is appointed a panel member and a Specialist of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) and committed herself to ensure the quality of education and training provision in Hong Kong. She is also International GCSE German examiner of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority.

A pioneering KE project to promote German language and culture in the wider Hong Kong community by organising various language and cultural workshops in secondary schools
Arts Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award: Promoting German in Secondary Schools (2018)
KE events to raise awareness of the value of foreign language and culture, diversity, and gender equality within the general public, and to fulfill the Arts Faculty KE Award's objective, providing funding to create further positive impact and benefit the community.
