The English Schools Foundation (ESF) currently operates 22 English-medium schools in Hong Kong and is an integral provider of education in the city. The foundation, established in 1967, has adapted to many political and social changes during the past 57 years. Despite its longevity and the collection of numerous records and archival documents concerning the ESF in government archives, very little has been written on the ESF in academic literature. Presented by Loretta Kim and HKU and ESF alumnus Vahith Nakka, this seminar introduces the origins of the ESF in the "early late" period of Hong Kong's history as a British colony and how it developed during the city's rapid economic growth and political transformation into a special administrative region.
